Wednesday Link Up // Vol. 18 - Making Onigiri, Defending Beer & More!

Wednesday, October 1, 2014

Welcome to another Wednesday Link Up!
But first, is East New York the new Bushwick?! ...

But enough about Brooklyn, let's get into Gotham
Last week the show Gotham made it's grand debut, but was it all worth the hype? I would say so... After that awful mess of a show they tried to sell me back in high school, I've been skeptical of any superhero TV series since, so imagine my surprise when Gotham didn't suck. There are so many stories in Gotham that I find it hard to believe directors keep focusing on re-telling the same stories! Why haven't we had some kind of Nightwing movie yet? Batgirl anyone?

A friend of mine insisted it's because people wouldn't be interested in a movie that wasn't about Batman, but I think Gotham is here to prove that theory wrong. Here's a story that involves Bruce Wayne but isn't just about Bruce Wayne. Fans will get the backstory to villains like Poison Ivy, Catwoman and The Riddler (to name a few) and even grow to love new characters like Jada Pinkett's Fish Mooney (I love her!).

Like any good story there's always that first shot that gets the ball rolling and, no surprise, that boom was the murder of Bruce's parents. Some ask "How many times must we see Bruce's parents die?" Considering it's the key ingredient in Batman's story arc, you better get used to it.

Now that I've poured my fangirl heart out, let's move along!~

It's October so great ready for Oktoberfests galore and 31 Days of Halloween (I love those ABC Family marathons...) New York City will be filled with pop up Halloween shops and Haunted Houses ... although I'm always up for a good spook, I'm never sure which haunted house will get me the best scare for my buck (some of them can be so expensive!), but this one really caught my eye, mostly because of the 1980's theme it chose. Damn, it was really THAT bad? I wonder if they'll have a 2000's themed haunted house in the future, where Wall St. crashes, unemployment goes up, wars pop up left and right and student loans take over your life dreams and kill them! That does sound scary...

All that can be overwhelming, so if you're into digesting disasters in small doses...

 Let's end this post on a food-related note - yum!~

Now that fall is here, I want to spend more time at home perfecting a few new recipes I learned in the last year and tackle some new ones. My main focus is finding a way to make lunch time at work something more pleasant, starting with my choice of food. I think onigiri would be a great way to switch things up a bit, who knows I might even take things so far as to experiment with bento art!~

If you don't already know, check out this video on how to make onigiri,
but you might want to put use that mute button, cause the audio can be a little... distracting.

Oh I almost forgot! TONIGHT there's another Defend Beer event; this time it's going down in Midtown! Since I work just a few blocks away, I'm hoping to swing by!~ They're going to be giving away a pair of 3-Day tickets to New York Comic Con and talking about beer culture at Beer Cul-- anyway, click here for more details!

defend beer, beer culture, brooklyn brewery,
