I am truly in my glory :)

Intern to Freelancer.

Friday, December 10, 2010

So, there was a hectic two week period around Thanksgiving where I was running around going to work, interviewing and baking pumpkin pies!
Well, last week I went to another interview for a freelance position at where I interned last summer; my old boss put in a real good word for me and well, here I am now, officially a freelancer.
Sure it sounds a little scary - no contract or benefits - but hey Peter Parker was a freelancer too; no shame
These past 6 months have been rough with the job search and I'm glad that I'm finally getting a chance to work in the field I'm interested in.

So tonight my darma ningyou gets his other eye - I guess he got tired of living in a world with no depth-perception and FINALLY granted me my wish! <3

I'll end the post with a picture of my work station.
For those graduates still looking for work, keep faith and work hard; it will come.

I'm a Makeup Geek.

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

I'm subscribed to a handful of makeup "gurus" on youtube and the MakeupGeek channel is one of them.
She's the most professional and down to earth guru of the ones I watch and I think this last video was great because as a amateur MUG (makeup geek) I'm not sure about all these different brands and their specialties.
So, if you're a novice like me OR you just want to see what someone else has to say about the top brands in makeup and their well-knowns then check this video out!

Cooking Mama: Pumpkin Pie!

Thursday, November 25, 2010

This is my first year making pumpkin pie. It's a pretty big deal for two reasons - one, I <3 pumpkin pie, so finally learning how to make it makes me very happy! ~ two, I have to cook at least one thing every Thanksgiving. Since this year I'm not making my infamous empanadas this'll be my contribution which I'm sure will be well received by the family :)

So here's my late night pumpkin pie journey ( and yes, lacking a mixing bowl forced me to use a pot - learning to be creative on the fly is just one of the perks of being poor, lol )

What are you favorite dishes?
Did any of you cook up something for Turkey Day?

MUSIC : Juan Luis Guerra

I love this man. Here's a newer song - so beautiful. Makes me feel like a 16 year-old girl in love.

NYC Chillin' : PIANOS

So two weeks ago a good friend of mine from work invited me to hang out with him and a few other coworkers at a spot called "Pianos" on the Lower East Side.
Now, for those big city dwellers, you know as much as I do how expensive drinks can be - double the price sometimes. So trust me when I tell you that Pianos was budget friendly, ESPECIALLY for a NYC bar. It's got a $5 happy hour menu as well as $4 margaritas and $3 well beers and bottled beers (and for a corona lover like me that means a lot of lime loving times!)
In a two hour time span I stuffed my face with chipotle wings (spicy!!) a margarita and two beers (those margaritas hit you hard, lol) and I was feeling quite happy. The staff is really friendly, the atmosphere is really chill, and there's a live DJ playing a good variety of music.
After that night I was craving another visit and sure enough last week I went again! :) Might just have to turn this into a weekly event!~

Gonna run out and buy some ingredients for pumpkin pie now - not to worry, evidence of my first pie adventure will most likely be up tonight!

Dressed for change.

Thursday, November 18, 2010

Today's a pretty big deal since I've got an interview with a digital marketing agency for a community manager position (* o*)/

Feeling like a million bucks in my new suit - first suit, actually.  Oh you fancy huh?

Life after college hasn't been exactly like I planned it, but I'm glad I am able to stay positive and work through it.

And for those wondering, yes that's my apartment in the background. I really love all the lighting I get in this place :)
Unfortunately things might change soon and I'll no longer have this first apartment, but the experience has definitely taught me a lot about what I'm looking for if and when I look for another.
As Ugly Betty said "I'm not leaving [my city dream], I'm taking it with me." Damn straight muchacha.

I know it's been awhile since I've updated but best believe, this time I'm back.

The Move Out.

Friday, October 1, 2010

It's not official, but it was close.
I'm in the midst of looking for an apartment to move into with my two boys (guinea pig & man). Contrary to what it seems, the hunt's been going on for awhile now, but there weren't always the resources or motivation to take the next step. Finally, the time has come!

Tonight I'm going to check out another apt. 1BR, BTH, KIT, LR. After awhile you start to figure out what these things mean. I'd love a W/D but that might be pushing it a little much especially for a place out here that's got UTL INC.
I recently got a Hello Kitty key to my mom's apartment. Now all I think about is when I can get the sister key to my own!

Financially it might be a bit of a struggle at the beginning, but when I make my first official trip to IKEA and COSTCO for the big buys, I'm going to explode with joy! :3
Somehow, right now, life is pretty darn good!

How about you guys? Anyone else making some big change in their life? I'd love to hear about how you plan it out or handle the stress/excitement, keep yourself grounded.

La Mujer Urbana.

Meet me, Shanis Navas.
I'm a New Yorker. A lover of public transportation, busy night life, apartment buildings, and duane reade. Growing up in New York has made me quite the dreamer, so you'll find I'm often talking about my future - what's next.

I'm fresh out of the college womb with a BA in Japanese and a minor in International Relations. All of my past internship experiences points to a career in Digital Marketing and Advertising. A little confusing, right?

I'm starting a new chapter in my life - adulthood in the real world. It's scary and exciting, like the first day of school. Good thing I don't have to do it alone.  I've got a fat guinea pig and a 6'3" marshmallow man at my side, not to mention I've got some great friends.

Looking forward to sharing this adventure with you!
There no better time than now.
I'm ready, let's do this!  - 行きましょう!
